Submit Your Story

If you have written a fan-fiction story revolving around old or new characters from the Circle C Adventures (or Milestones, Beginnings, or even Goldtown), I would love to post it for all to enjoy.

Click this link, CircleCAdventures@gmail.com. Please try to limit your story to under 3,000 words, as it takes me a while to read them and format them for the blog. Thanks!

Also, before submitting, please take a look at the following guidelines for sending in a story:
(Most of these are common sense.)

1. Andi has lots of friends who are boys. Write any adventure you like including them. However, please keep the modern idea of "boy-girl" relationships to a minimum. That is just not how it was done in the 1800s. Andi can court, and so can her siblings, but keep it within the framework of 19th century boundaries.

2. The stories need to have the CCAdventures characters prominent in the plot line. This is not a short-story site where any stories about any characters under the sun are welcome. Readers enjoy reading about these characters. However . . .

3. . . . it's perfectly acceptable (and lots of fun) to make up a bunch of new friends (or relatives!) for the CCAdventures characters.

4. Keep your history straight. We readers are not picky, but stick to events that can actually happen, like the right president for the times, or the right name for things. For example, you can send the Carters to Hawaii, but make sure they go by steamer to the "Sandwich Islands."

If anybody can think of other guidelines that should be included, please leave your suggestions in the comments below.

Thanks!

  1. 4. You might want to brush up on your history -- I was writing a story once when the Carters were traveling from CA to AZ... using a stagecoach! After some study, I figured out they would've traveled on train instead. So, history is important, especially if you don't know much about that time (you wouldn't need a history book for this century, but Andi isn't in this century, so...)

I might think of more later!

    1. Great idea! Thanks. I will include. However, they would probably travel via stagecoach from CA to AZ, as the Southern Pacific RR line did not extend way down there for some time. If you did a Milestones fan story, the train would work. If you did a Beginnings story, it would have to be a stagecoach. :-) I doubt I will get that picky. Just keep them off a plane or automobile. (Seriously, I had a contest story submitted a year or two ago, where the Carters went to Hawaii. They could, of course, but it would be called the Sandwich Islands, and they sure wouldn't be going on a cruise! LOL) Needless to say, that story did not win.

  2. I have a story, but it doesn't have a lot of boys. Just Cory and her brothers. Also there is no romance. It is just a moral story with some funny, and serious parts. Could I still get it posted?

  4. +Abbi I know it's not a great title, but I'm not good at titleing! The story, however, is much better than the title! Lol

  5. If I want to send you my story would I just copy and paste it into the email then? No special format? And its okay to use a scene from your book and make it from someone else's POV? Sorry, I'm full of questions.
I have just one more. What are the names of the horses that Andi's siblings usually ride?
    Thanks! -Sadie :)

    1. Yes. Just paste it into an email. No special formatting. Yes, you may use a scene and change POV.

    3. Hello again, I was wondering, the Carter girls (Katherine, Melinda, and Andi) all have lockets right? I wasn't sure if you ever said what was pictured inside the lockets, but I've always wondered that. :-) Thank you!

    1. Yes, I have it. :-) But I'm on the road at conventions so it's hard to post and do these things when I'm so busy at conventions. It will get up there, but not anytime soon. So sorry!

    2. The posts you see are ones that have been scheduled ahead of time and they just post by themselves. LOL

  8. Hi Mrs. Marlow! I was just wondering, can I send in the same story I wrote for this years writing contest entry?

  9. I have a question, Mrs. Marlow. So I have this idea for a story in my head and I know it's going to be a good bit longer than 3000 words. Do you think maybe if I sent it to you in short parts, you would be able to put it on Fan Fiction? If you can't, I totally understand! It was just a thought:)

  10. So you can send in any kind of story if it has Andi in it?

  12. Can I write a story about Andi going blind?

  13. In all your books, Mrs. M, you've never mentioned Riley having siblings. Is it okay if I made up siblings for him in the story I'm writing?

  15. Mrs. M, are you okay if fan's write POV stories, even though another fan has written the same story? In my case, Abbi G. wrote Riley's point of view from meeting Andi, and I have always wanted to write that scene from Riley's eyes even before Abbi wrote it.
I understand if you do not want to allow this.

Are you like . . . reading every fan fiction story on this site? LOL
Glad you are being entertained. And the fans will love reading more.

    2. How did you know? LOL! Yes, I'm making my way through each. Since these are short stories and I since I'm a pretty fast reader, it doesn't take much time. I'm really enjoying myself.
      Thanks so much, Mrs. M!

    1. Yes, but I sent you an email and I need you to put in paragraph INDENTS, at least in the first three chapters. And . . . well . . . you must not have read the word count thing. *smiles sheepishly* Here it is from the POST:

"Please try to limit your story to under 3,000 words, as it takes me a while to read them and format them for the blog. Thanks!"

So, is there any way to make this TWO fan fiction stories? Cuz if I let this one fly "as is," then everybody will start writing 6,000 word stories.

    2. Sorry Mrs. M. :( I did read the word count but there was really NO WAY I could make it any shorter. :( I am pretty sure that there is NO WAY I can make this 2 parts. If you REALLY, REALLY need me to make it 2 parts, let me know I can try. I just prefer to stay away from that as I feel it makes the story less dramatic if I do it in 2 parts (sorry, I like story drama). I was originally planning to have this story a whole lot shorter than 6,739 words, but not much ever goes as I plan it. I guess I just got sucked in to the mood of the story. :D

    3. Okay Mrs. M, I got an idea. The best place to end my story would be to the end of chapter six and just before chapter seven. I would still be over the word count (3,923 to be exact) but at least it wouldn't be more than 3,000+ words over the word count (as is the case with the full story). I could make it end sooner than that I suppose, but it wouldn't really fit ending sooner then that (I think all stories should end with a happyish ending and it would if I ended with chapter six). Let me know if you want me to end sooner than that and I can try to work something out.
      -Claire
P.s. Is there a word count for comments? Because if there is I probably went over that, Lol!

      Delete
    4. No, there is no word count for comments. LOL
And honestly, it's not that I can't both POST of the fan fiction stories, and I will post them BOTH right next to each other, so I hope you don't think anything after your 3,923 words is gone....
I'm just trying to keep the rest of the Andi world from doing this all of the time.
The email you sent me with the story indented still looks really, really like one paragraph. Can you put it on Google Docs or something and take a little more time with the paragraph indents? I think what is happening is the indents are being taken out during the Emailing. So if you do it on Google Docs, the formatting will stay put. Give it a try, please, as I don't have time to go through the 6,000 words and put in all your indents. And from the little bit of skimming I've done so far, it looks good, and I'd like to post it!

  18. Hey Mrs. M, I have a couple of questions for a fan fic story I am working on.
    1) Where would ranch hand's families live?
    2) In Heartbreak Trail Sid mentions he has a daughter, where would she have stayed since she probably couldn't be in the bunkhouse with him, but couldn't be anywhere by herself?
    3) What is Sid's daughter's name, or does she not have a known name?
    4) How old is Sid 1864, or does he not have a known age?
    5) How did Sid's wife die, or have you never determined that?
    6) How long before Sid came to work on the Circle C did his wife die, or have you never determined that?
    Thanks! 😊

    1. 1. In small cabins on the ranch, some distance away from the rest of the main yard, like Rosa's family after they get the job at the Circle C at the end of Long Ride Home.
      2. Sid's daughter would have stayed with him in a small place on the ranch until she was old enough for him to send her to boarding school, which he did. Andi has never met her.
      3. Ellen (I think her name is mentioned in Heartbreak Trail, but I could be mixing that up with an earlier version, and her name might have ended up on the editing floor.) Oops. I just did a word check, and ELLEN got left on the editing floor, but it's a good name anyway, I think. It's my grandmother's name.
      4. Well . . . I would assume that when he came to work for the Carters he was a young man (with a three year old daughter and no wife), and according to HT (page 16), he has worked for them for 20 years, so . . . he came to the Circle C in 1863 in his thirties, I think, so he's in his fifties during Milestones and nigh on 60 by the time CL rolls around. So in 1864 I'd guess we could make him . . . 35. How does that sound? Cuz everybody thinks he's getting old by the end of the Milestones.
      5. Nope. I have no idea. Make something up. :-)
      6. I dunno. I would assume less than 6 months because he would have to find work and a place for his child ASAP.

      HOpe that helps!
