Mini Contests

Sometimes, Mrs. M hosts a random "mini" writing contest. These contests are usually less than 50 or 100 words and have only one winner. See the winners and the entries here. The most recent mini writing contest is listed at the top. Finding older mini contests by scrolling down.

Happy Birthday, Andi!

May 26 is Andi's birthday. In 50 words or less, give Andi a birthday gift. It can be from anyone and she can be celebrating a birthday at any age.

Prize: Winner's choice of one of these three gift packs.

Winner: Nora I.

"Happy 10th birthday, Andi! I hope you like your gift!" I said.
"Oh, it's that new book, Black Beauty, and licorice whips, my favorite candy!" Andi exclaimed.
"Ten of them because you are turning ten." I smiled.
"Thank you for making my birthday extra special," Andi finished.

I could not post all of the "gifts" for Andi. There were too many entries.

Valentine's Card & Gift for Andi
  1. Create a Valentine’s Day verse that Andi might have received in a card for Valentine’s Day at some time in her life. You can choose a humorous poem, a sweetheart poem, or a rude poem (but in good taste), depending on who sends it. Make sure you include who it’s from!
  2. Also include a Valentine’s gift from the same person. What would it be and why?
Prize -  Winner's choice of one item from the Circle C Store >>

Winner: #26 Josie L.

If you have a hard time making out the old-fashioned cursive script, see it below. Here is the gift Cory gave Andi and why. (When Josie saw the gift, she said the wooden carved box was exactly how she imagined it. Awesome!)

26.
Josie L.  Your horse is golden as the sun; We’ve always raced, but I’ve never won; I’ve tried really hard; But I’m always last; Maybe someday I’ll put it in the past; Thanks for being my friend; I can’t wait ‘til we race again. ~ from Cory when Andi and him were still in school. A carved, wooden jewelry box filled with taffy candy. Why that choice? Well, the poem's partly about Taffy and taffy is also Andi's favorite candy.

Two Runners Up (honorable mentions)

#10 by Marenn H. She created a unique acrostic as a Valentine's Day card from Riley.

L oved is one as beautiful as you.

O ver the moon is me for you.

V ery in love is me with you.

E very day I dream of me and you.

Riley's gift to Andi is beautiful roses (because Andi loves nature and roses stand for love).

#29 by Trinity S.

In horses, friendship is a nicker or a nuzzle;

An affectionate touch of a velvety muzzle.

In people, sincere love and friendship can expand;

To include a kiss on your lips, a ring on your hand.

~from Riley, your horse pal & future husband.

Riley's gift to Andi is a "date" trip to the hidden glade and a box of chocolates.

Andi's Best (Christmas) Gift

In 50 words or less, write about (choose one only):

1. the very best Christmas gift Andi could ever receive . . . or

2. the very best Christmas gift Andi could give to someone else.

Prize: Circle C Christmas book and horse/Christmas socks.

First Place:  Fallyn Christie (book and socks)

I think that the most meaningful gift that Andi could receive would be a lost letter from her father. A letter from her father would be meaningful because she would have something that he wrote just to her.

Second Place:  Susannah Shutt (book)

The best gift I could give Mother is obedience. She asked me to stay with Aunt Rebecca over Christmas since she couldn’t come to Fresno. I didn’t want to, but I decided that my gift to her and Auntie would be to obey happily. I think Jesus is happy too.

Tie for Second Place:  Arabella Waugh

If I could have her back,
Just one more time,
One more day,
If I could hear her tender, delicate neigh,
If I could stroke her flowing, silvery mane,
If I could once more hug her,
Embrace her golden neck,
This gift would surpass any other . . . Oh Taffy, my horse.

  4. I know there's a link for miny writing contests on the fan fiction page, but are you going to make it work so we don't have to find the Valentines winner post to find this page? Does that make sense? :D
