by Micaiah Christenson
Hello, my name is
Micaiah. I am fourteen, and I live on a cattle ranch.
When I wake in the morning,
I put on my favorite
plaid shirt, a pair of overalls, and my high top
boots. I head out to the barn and saddle
my horse, Misty.
We gallop off together into the open countryside.
Once I reach my
favorite spot, a tree placed by a small, shimmering lake, I sit on the swing my father
put in the tree for me and take out my Bible.
As the sun comes up, I take in its beauty,
along with the beauty of God’s word.
When the sun has risen, and the sky is blue,
I hop back on Misty’s
back and ride towards my home
where I meet my brother,
sister, mother, and father. We sit down to breakfast
together, and after we have
blessed and eaten our meal, I am ready for a day on the range.
After feeding and watering the
horses, I saddle Misty up once again and follow my brother and sister and father as they trot out of the yard. Once we hit open range, we push our horses into
a gallop in the direction of a herd of cattle.
Together we work to be sure that no cattle
are injured. By the time we
finish, dinner has come around, so we ride back to the ranch where Mother has
food waiting. After dinner, I convince my siblings that we should all go
swimming, so we ride out to the lake.
Soon after that, we do our evening chores
and go in for supper.
After we eat, we gather
in the library and my sister reads aloud from a book.
As I drift off to sleep that night, I thank God for my life.
