One
Summer morning, Andrea Carter was grooming her golden Palomino, Taffy. When she
heard hooves she recognized the rider – and that was what frightened her the
most. It was Mr. Benton, the man who had kidnapped Andi and her mother. Andi
could not go to her brothers Mitch and Chad because they had gone to herd the
cows.
Andi
turned and began running towards the house yelling “Mother! Mother!” “What?”
asked her calm mother. “It is Mr. Benton!” Andi yelled. Her mother grew pale.
“Get into the house Andrea” she said. “But Mother” Andi began, “Get in the
house” her mother repeated. “Okay” signed Andi as she went into the house.
As
Andi sat on the sofa she watched out the window as she saw her mother come in
the house followed by Mr. Benton. “Mr. Benton!” Andi exclaimed, “I’ve missed
you, why did you come?” “I came to say I’m sorry” Mr. Benton replied.
“Oh”
replied Andi. “Well, I need to go finish grooming Taffy. She is my Palomino.”
“Andrea, please go get Mitch and Chad” Mother said. “Okay” Andi replied.
Andi
walked to the pasture where her brothers were. “Mitch! Chad!” Andi called,
“Mother wants you to come to the house. We have a visitor.” They walked back to
the house together. “Mother” called Andi, “we are here”. “Good” Mother replied,
“Mitch, Chad, Mr. Benton came back”. “Mr. Benton, the guy who kidnapped you and
Andi? Chad yelled, “What does he want?” “Now Chad, you calm down, it is not
what you think” said Mother. “Mr. Benton came to say thank you”. “For what?”
Chad asked. “I do deserve what you said, Chad” Mr. Benton replied, “I should
not have kidnapped your sister and Mrs. Carter and I have come to say sorry and
like Mrs. Carter said, to say thank you”. “Oh!” said Chad “What did you come to
say thank you about?”
“Well”
said Mr. Benton, “I came to thank your Mother for teaching me to read as all of
you know. I wanted to learn how to read the Bible. That is why I kidnapped Mrs.
Carter and Andi. I was not a Christian then but when Mrs. Carter left I read
the Bible and know I know what I did was wrong. I’m sorry and one more thing,
Where is Justin?” “Justin?” asked Andi, “He is on a lawyer trip. “Oh” said Mr.
Benton. “Well, bye!” “Bye Mr. Benton” called Andi.
