Molly's Beginning (ages 13-17)

 by Katie F.

Chapter 1

Intro

Molly, a 12 year old girl with brown hair and green eyes, was staring at a red salamander. She was very excited she was moving to California, (close to the Circle C Ranch). To a bunch of land (they had yet to name the land) but Molly was excited anyway. She had been wondering if there were any other ranches nearby. She got off the ground, finished putting her stuff in a saddle bag, and climbed on to her horse Starlight, Starlight was a nice white Lipizzan horse Molly has had ever since she got Starlight for her 6th birthday. Although Starlight had to be old enough first, she was VERY excited when she was able to train her. But Starlight was very stubborn and took a while to train, but eventually Molly was able to train her. It would take quite a while to make it over to California after all. They lived quite a ways from their new home. But they had to get there, after all where they lived just didn't seem right; everything seemed to just fall apart, most of Molly's siblings all grew up, and thought they needed to move. It was a very hard decision to make, but it was made. Off they went on their journey to a new home.

Chapter 2

The ride

Everything was packed up, and Molly and her family were on their way to their new home. It was a bumpy ride on the way over then everything was going smoothly (well as smoothly as a bumpy road can be) until BANG! Molly was looking on all sides of herself when she saw one of the horses fall into the creek! Molly wasn't sure what to do because her sister Rebecca was on that horse!! Molly panicked for a minute until Rebecca rode her horse Carmen to safety and out of that dangerous creek. Rebecca got off Carmen to check for injuries. Everyone was relieved that no one got hurt. Not Carmen or Rebecca. After a quick break to catch their breath, Molly and her family were on their way to their new ranch (which still needed a name). It would take them a while longer than expected because after a while it turned out that Carmen wasn't as fine as they thought. It turned out she was hiding pain and almost completely collapsed. It turned out Carmen had twisted her ankle, now the important question is how would the family take an injured horse all the way to their new home?

Chapter 3

The difficult decision

The traveling family had to make a difficult decision about Carmen and Rebecca. But no decision needed to be made because they were closer to their new home than they thought. They were IN the Circle C Ranch. VERY close to their new home. Walking distance. And 13 year old Andi Carter came out on her horse taffy to ask the Strangers what they were doing on her family's ranch. “What are you doing here?” Andi asks the strangers. ”Well…” Molly starts. “My horse and I fell in the creek a couple miles back and now we noticed that she has something wrong with her ankle. I think it might be broken.” Rebecca said, finishing Molly's sentence. “Well…” Andi was not quite sure what to say. “You are welcome to stay at the Circle C Ranch until your horse heals if you want.” Andi said hopefully because it had been a while since the Circle C Ranch had some visitors.

Chapter 3

The other problem

To Andi's excitement, the visitors were quite interested in getting help for their injured horse, so they followed Andi to the rest of her family. It was much easier to take the injured horse to help than to take her to their new home. Molly was excited! This helpful young lady looked just about her age and the map said they are close to their new home. They are so close, but Carmen has to heal first. Molly just wants a good night's sleep after a long journey. Now a new problem is among them; a snake crosses their path Taffy was startled by the…dead? Snake? “Ugh!” Andi yells “King! Get your dead snake out of my way!” King (the dog) comes running, picks up his snake in his mouth and leaves. Andi helps the visitors inside, and they have a conversation with Andi's family. Carmen's ankle is sprained, not broken, and the family breathes a sigh of relief. The Carter family told Molly's family that Carmen could stay with them while they get settled in their new home. Molly and her family travel the next 7 miles to their new home. Three weeks later, Molly and Rebecca come to pick up Carmen from the Carter's. She was all better now. The Carter family and Molly's family became good friends, and Molly and Andi went to search for lizards weekly.
