The Best Ranch
by Elizabeth Swan
It
all began when we pulled up the ranch driveway, I just knew it was going to be
a great week! It was finally summer
break. Everyone came out to greet us. They showed us to our room and we made
ourselves at home. Later that evening we
heard screams so we went down and checked it out. We saw a man mistreating a little girl. We calmly asked him to stop and asked him
what was going on. He told us the little
girl belongs to him and works in the kitchen.
After we heard that, we went to bed disturbed. That morning we went to the courthouse and
talked to the judge. He told us it was
true that someone could own a child. We asked him what we could do? Well you could tell the owner you would be
willing to adopt her. If you do, I will
sign the papers tomorrow. We talked to
the girl's “so-called” master and he said yes.
We took her to the judge. We
adopted her and love her very much.
