by Caleb, age 11
As Jem Coulter tramped up to the mysterious noise that he had been hearing for weeks he thought, “It’s finally the time to see what this wonderful noise is.” And as he brushed through the clearing. . . .He came upon the most beautiful waterfall he had ever seen!
So, he ran to tell Ellie. “Guess what I just found,“
inclined Jem.
“What?” asked Ellie.
“I just found a beautiful waterfall c’mon I’ll show ya!”
said Jem.
“YAY!” screamed Ellie with delight.
So, therefore he set out with Ellie skipping by his side,
and he traveled for about a mile and a half until he got to the cliff
overlooking the beautiful sight. “Do ya think we could pan for gold here?”
asked Ellie.
“Sure we could give it a try, I brought my gold pan,”
replied Jem.
So, they searched for a few hours until Jem made a jaw
dropping discovery.
“So it’s true, it’s really true! I’ve heard rumors about a
spot with nuggets this big but I never found that spot until now and, oh Ellie,
look what I just found.” And sure enough in Jem Coulter’s pan there was a gold
nugget the size of a large pebble.
“WOW!” said an astonished Ellie, “Let's go show Pa.”
“Ok and I don’t think that anybody else knows about this
spot,” whispered Jem, looking around to see if anyone was listening in.
So, they showed the nugget to Pa and from then on, thanks to
Ellie’s great idea, it remained Jem’s favorite strike and Jem found a whole lot
more nuggets.
